“Say What?!” Sundays (A Quick Overview of Some of This Week’s Events)

When it comes to news, so much happens in a such a short time, it’s nearly impossible to take note of EVERYTHING that going on around you. Luckily, you have SjBRL here to sort some of that craziness out for your viewing pleasure.

New Music:

-Truly Yours EP & New Single – J. Cole

Earlier this week J. Cole released a Free EP Titled, Truly Yours.  This EP was released without any prior announcement and is available over at J. Cole’s Blog, Dreamvillain. This 5 track extended play features previously unreleased music, as well as songs that did not make the cut for his upcoming album, Born Sinner. The first single “Power Trip” featuring Miguel, was also released several days later. Check out Elliot Wilson‘s review of the EP on his video series, The Truth.

-Tyler “The Creator” New Single & Album

Odd Future’s Tyler “The Creator” released the video For the song “Domo 23“, off of his new album Wolf. According to Hip Hop DX, this album is set for an April 2nd release. The video features Tyler fighting as luchador against a heavyset opponent, as the rest of the Odd Future gang make sporadic appearance throughout the video (Note: Look for Earl Sweatshirt). There is also a snippet of the song “Bimmer” Featuring Frank Ocean.

For Professional Use Only – AraabMuzik

After releasing several songs over his SoundCloud, producer/Destoryer-of- MPC’s (There’s too many videos to just link just one), AraabMuzik officially released the mixtape, For Professional Use Only. This collection of instrumentals is available on Live Mixtapes, free of charge. This compilation features new music, as well as instrumental versions of songs that he has produced for other artists (I.e “Words of A Chameleon“, “Hammer Dance“, “Street Knock” ). Lil Wayne Karate Chop Controversy

Lil Wayne has landed himself in hot water thanks to a line from the remix to Future’s song “Karate Chop”. In the song, he compares a sex act to the Emmet Till Murder. Members of Till’s family have spoken out against the rappers use of the lyric. Singer Stevie Wonder, has also expressed disgust over the lyric. According to the New York Daily News, Epic Records, the label that is home to Future, has released  a statement saying,

“We regret the unauthorized remix version of Future’s ‘Karate Chop,’ which was leaked online and contained hurtful lyrics,” Out of respect for the legacy of Emmett Till and his family and the support of the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. … we are going through great efforts to take down the unauthorized version.”

Lil Wayne has yet to speak on the matter. Emmett Till, was a 14-year-old African American who was brutally murdered in Mississippi in 1955.

Drake’s New Album Title & New Video

During an interview at the Grammys, Drake revealed the title to his forthcoming album to be, Nothing Was The Same.  The video for his new single “Started From The Bottom” (which was originally supposed to be released that night) was also revealed.

Complex: KiD CuDi Feature Story

For the February/March issue of Complex, Kid Cudi (along with Rihanna) are the featured cover story. In the interview, the Cleavland rapper goes over many different topics including the development of his new album, Indicud, his roller coaster of a life and his current outlook as an artist, producer and father.
